Shayu 'Morning Glory' Single

Some things need no explanation. And somehow one of the hardest truths still does. There’s a lot of ways to help out these days and we felt we needed to pitch in and contribute in any way we can. Because change starts at your own doorstep we’ve decided to donate a part of our total revenue as a label, personal donations by our members and the revenue generated by this release to Nederland Wordt Beter. They are a local organisation that focusses on the education and the spreading of information about bigotry, diversity and other topics that need to be discussed and radically changed for the better.

On the 2nd of June Zurich based producer/visual artist Shayu will release her video project Morning Glory Through Bound Centre. She recently released her ‘All The Way Through’ EP on Coyote records and has more planned for the future. Shayu’s signature sound ranges from Grime like structures and sounds to a more clubby feel with intricate percussion and has been featured in the past on multiple platforms including Boiler Room, NTS Radio among others.

For this project she collaborated with dancer Sam Dilkes for an impromptu improvisational dance on the streets of Dalston fueled by a combination of Shayu’s sounds and an unconventional surrounding. Shayu and Dilkes met in Shanghai, at the afterparty of a chinese brand that invited her to compose a soundtrack for them. It was at the party where she was intrigued by the way he moved. Dilkes trains at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance and is therefore not foreign to unconventional styles of music and experimental forms of improvisation. Shayu’s take on simplified/minimalistic melodies and Dilkes’ choice of movement complement each other through a form of awkwardness and spontaneity. Her choice to use the streets for the video also adds to the experience by not only being a backdrop but also for setting a specific mood that Dilkes uses in his choice of movement.
